A few humanitarian aid groups have sent volunteers in, but results have been mixed - at least one such volunteer dropped off the map some years ago and hasn't been heard from since. Given Arulco's size, lack of useful natural resources, complete unimportance in general politics, and Deidranna's lack of foreign adventurism, the situation has been left mostly alone by the rest of the world. Miguel Cordona's forces became rebels in truth, and after a few clashes Deidranna's army drove into the northern city of Omerta, where the rebels were based, and leveled it - the population was scattered, and the buildings shattered. Dragging most of the citizens off their farms, she put them to work in newly-opened mines, intending to exploit the gold and silver veins found in the country for personal profit and to pay for the military forces necessary to maintain her rule. In the wake of Enrico's death, the citizens of Arulco voted to give the throne to his widow, and Deidranna became the Queen.Īfter taking the throne, Deidranna revealed her true colors - she instituted an authoritarian rule, suspended the assembly and the courts, brought in mercenaries to serve as her elite soldiers and conscripted peasants into the army. Found guilty at the trial, he was sentenced to execution but his convoy was attacked by rebels under the command of Miguel Cordona outside the courthouse, and he was killed when the car he was riding in was blown up in the attack. Things quickly deteriorated - Enrico's father, the previous king, was murdered, and the investigation placed complicity at Enrico's feet. The pomp of the marriage - and his new wife's charisma - was enough to carry the election for Enrico, and he was crowned King. Leading up to the last election, Enrico Chivaldori sought to consolidate his race against his rival, Miguel Cordona, by marrying a charismatic Romanian aristocrat named Deidranna Reitman. It's population is primarily Hispanic, it has nine towns, ranging from "Tiny hamlet" to "small city," along with a number of farmsteads interspersed with jungles and swampland.įor the last century, Arulco has been ruled by an elective monarchy, with the ruling king always being chosen from one of the two great political dynasties - the Cordonas, and the Chivaldoris, and elections happening every ten years. Jagged Alliance 2 is set in the fictional nation of Arulco, which comprises the southern half of a small island in the Caribbean sea. The 1.13 mod is a reference to the fact that the final patch for the game was 1.12 (as compared to the final patch for Jagged Alliance 1, which was 1.13). There is still, in fact, a thriving (by the standards of the small fanbase for the genre) modding community for 2, and one of the main projects coming out of that modding community is the 1.13 mod. workable, but was a Kickstarter game that didn't even come close to meeting its potential. #JAGGED ALLIANCE 2 GOLD 1.12 FILE EDITOR SERIES#
Jagged Alliance 2 was published in 1999, and is still considered to be the high point of the series - of the three more recently published games, one of them (Back In Action) is a retelling of the story of 2, with a different combat engine that worked really weirdly. Rather than going the PMC route of having a lot of faceless mook soldiers, however, the Jagged Alliance games have you recruiting elite specialists - you will only ever have a one or two squads of soldiers, but every recruitable mercenary (of the literally dozens available) have their own background, and personality, and likes and dislikes. In each game, the player takes the role of a mercenary commander, who has been hired to intervene in a very small third world country to lead a revolution or military campaign against a dictator figure.

For those unfamiliar with the franchise, the Jagged Alliance games are turn based tactical combat games set in the modern day (or, well, very recent past, at this point).
